I pursued a career at NASA because I wanted to do research and make discoveries. I enjoyed conducting experiments and analyzing large amounts of data.

Designing simulations allowed me to think in multiple dimensions – both in the experiment setup and in the helicopter dynamics that I was testing. I created the visual cues that the pilot referenced out the window and on head-down displays. Writing papers on the results helped me improve my written skills and presenting at conferences helped me improve my speaking abilities.

I created the slides and graphics that are illustrated in this project.

As lead developer I built the research activities on all 5 labs (Sun, Clouds, Energy, RNA, and Cybersecurity).

In the NOVA Labs project, I collaborate with scientists (at NASA Goddard, CMU, Harvard, and MIT) by adapting their research for the purpose of educating high school students. The platform presents video, an educational game, and an open-ended experience where students can do research on the same data that scientists are using. Part of my contribution is to ensure that a hands-on digital game experience is included in each of the labs.

Technologies used: AngularJS, jQuery, CSS, Raphael, canvas, Django.

The images and graphics in this project are NOVA’s. I worked from storyboard sketches and Illustrator graphics to develop the animations that appear in this video and I produced the video walkthrough.

This physics simulation was built to teach principles of construction. I coded the bricks and placed them in the simulation to model existing arches. I really liked that the physical properties alone–friction, mass, and gravity–held together the structure. The user can experiment with different heights and supports. If the arc is too high or not properly supported then it falls apart. You can also click on any brick to remove it and immediately see the result as the simulation is continuously running.

The images in this project are NOVA’s. I produced the video walkthrough.

I used 360 degree panoramas and walk-arounds with full-screen images to immerse the user in the content. Using existing slides of NOVA’s trip, I created an innovative way to present the multimedia in this interactive. The user can follow menus, maps, or direct their journey through first-person navigation. My role was the ActionScript coding and architecting of the Flash project.

This type of project–where the user can visit a place that has limited access–is very relevant today for 3D immersive experiences such as the Oculus rift.
